The Athens taxi rate was officially set on August 1, 2022. Taxi tariffs in Greece are officially set by cities or districts. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Athens taxi rate:

The taxi tariff of Athen is designed to be straightforward for passengers. Taxis operate with two main time periods: daytime and nighttime. The daytime tariff is valid daily from 5:00 am to midnight. During these hours, the fare starts with a base charge of €1.80. For each kilometer traveled after the initial entry, the rate is €0.90 per kilometer. If the taxi is waiting or delayed, a waiting time fee of €45.00 is charged per hour.

At night, from midnight to 6:00 am, the nighttime tariff applies. The base fare remains €1.80. However, the price per kilometer increases to €1.25 for each additional kilometer driven during these hours. The waiting time charge also remains at €45.00 per hour at night.

There are specific fixed fares for rides between the center of Athens and the international airport. For these trips, the fare is €40.00 during daytime hours and €55.00 during nighttime hours. These prices cover the entire journey each way and include all fees.

All fares are charged per trip, not per person. Passengers are encouraged to make sure the tariff in use matches the time of day. This clear tariff structure aims to give passengers a transparent understanding of how their fare is calculated in Athen.
